Have you, or your spouse or partner, ever served in the Armed Forces?

NEW
CAT ZERO Veterans Programme
The CatZero team will support veterans to increase self-belief, confidence and
motivation. You will have the opportunity to meet new friends and people who
can support you by way of team building and group activities. CatZero also offers
support with social anxiety and social isolation. Our ‘Once CatZero, Always CatZero’
ethos ensures continued support for participants.

There are about 2.4 million Veterans in Great Britain, 5% of the population aged 16 and over. We recognise that as a result of their service, Military Veterans may have more complex physical and mental health needs and have increased vulnerability. Military Veterans may miss the structure, support and friendship of the force and find transition to life outside the military challenging.

We have a number of military families registered as patients. We know that with the frequent geographic moves of a military career patients can be disadvantaged with having their healthcare interrupted, losing their place on waiting lists and having to change GP surgeries.

What are we doing to support Military Veterans?

Dr Dixon’s husband served in the British Army for 16 years. Dr Dixon is therefore perfectly placed to be our named Military Veteran GP. She has engaged in specific training from the Royal College of GP’s to enhance her understanding of healthcare needs and barriers.

Certificate of Accreditation

We are proud to be a Veteran friendly accredited practice, accredited by a joint campaign  by the Royal College of GP’s, NHS England and NHS Improvement.

We have held a dedicated teaching session for all of our staff to highlight the challenges Military Veterans and families face.

Following this training we have:

  • Changed our practice registration document to ask if new patients are Military Veterans and then recorded this on their medical record
  • Texted all patients to ask if they are a Military Veteran and then entered this on their medical record

If you are a Military Veteran or part of a military family, please book an appointment with Dr Dixon or any GP if you feel we can support you more.

There are a number of charities and organisations that provide support to veterans and their families, some of these are:
